Energy efficiency is no longer a trend in the construction industry – It is a necessity
Regulations, emission reductions, and costs demand energy-efficient solutions to ensure the functionality and long-term performance of buildings.
According to the Ministry of the Environment, construction accounts for 35% of global greenhouse gas emissions, with up to 65% generated by energy consumption during a building’s lifecycle. Hedengren addresses this challenge by offering solutions that help reduce a building’s energy consumption and lifecycle costs while supporting sustainable construction and enabling comprehensive, single-provider solutions for customers. Solutions also support compliance with international building certifications such as BREEAM, LEED, RY, and WELL, particularly in terms of energy efficiency, lifecycle impacts, and indoor environmental quality.
Integration and long lifecycle – The invisible side of energy efficiency
The construction sector is shifting from isolated systems toward long-lasting, integrated entities. Hedengren’s safety and building technology solutions are designed to work together via open interfaces, to be upgraded in stages without unnecessary system overhauls, and to minimize material flows and components. Through the sensor data collected by safety systems, the number of separate building systems can be reduced by using the same data to support the operation of the entire building. This decreases investment and operational costs as well as maintenance needs, since one data source serves multiple purposes without overlapping systems. At the same time, the building’s energy consumption and carbon footprint are reduced.
Our service model, built on comprehensive energy efficiency, covers the assessment of energy-saving potential, the selection of technologies, and support during commissioning and operation. An ISO 9001 and ISO 14001 certified supply chain supports responsible construction and helps meet tightening environmental requirements.
Neptolux – The most energy-efficient emergency and exit lighting on the market
Emergency lighting is one of the largest sources of continuous electricity consumption in buildings: luminaires can be on for up to 8,760 hours a year. Neptolux emergency lights and escape route lights use modern LED and NiMH technology, enabling up to 90% lower energy consumption compared to conventional LED systems. Their low operating temperature and optimized batteries also extend luminaire lifespan.

In an example site (100 emergency luminaires), the annual savings amount to 3,680 kWh. CO₂ emissions are reduced more than tenfold compared to typical solutions.
The Prodex FIREscape fire safety lighting system’s combined control panel integrates the fire alarm system and the Neptolux emergency lighting system into a single system, reducing system cabling and material consumption
Steinel – Energy-efficient lighting
Steinel, represented by Hedengren, provides sensor technologies that make lighting genuinely energy-efficient while improving safety and supporting well-being. Lighting activates only when needed, reducing unnecessary energy consumption and improving building security. Precise sensors, multiple sensing technologies, and broad compatibility (KNX, DALI2, Bluetooth, IP) enable seamless integration with any building automation system.

True energy efficiency emerges in real use. That is why Hedengren’s solutions are supported by service models that ensure proper operation, ongoing optimization, and achievement of energy savings long after commissioning.
