From Words to Action – Time to Deliver on the AI Promise
Artificial intelligence presents exceptional opportunities for the HVAC and construction industries. However, realizing this potential requires practical, easy-to-implement solutions that can be effectively applied in everyday work.
Joni Haapamäki, Managing Director at Aceve Finland, a specialist in software solutions for building services and construction, notes that the software industry has not yet fully met the high expectations surrounding AI.
“So far, much of the discussion has focused on how AI accelerates and streamlines software development. However, the tangible benefits for end users have largely remained unclear.”
According to Haapamäki, now is the time to bring genuinely functional solutions to market—solutions that address real, day-to-day challenges in HVAC and construction.
“Many software providers emphasize data-driven management. In practice, however, this often remains a high-level concept and represents only a small portion of the total working hours in the industry. True productivity is created on-site, in the routine tasks that are repeated thousands of times. These are the areas where efficiency improvements have the greatest impact.”
A New Way of Using Software
To address these challenges, Aceve Finland is introducing a new mobile version of its software, offering a fundamentally new way of interacting with the system. Installers and site management can carry out routine tasks more seamlessly and with less effort than before.
A key change is that the user interface can now be operated by voice command instead of manual data entry. The system enables functions such as customer search, order creation, and the logging of work and materials using any language. This removes the need to navigate menus or locate the correct input fields. In addition, the software automatically generates time entries based on location data, allowing installers to simply review and approve their hours when leaving the job site.
“We want to truly understand fieldwork, and we have identified that one of the most frustrating aspects of installers’ work is reporting tasks,” says Product Manager Aleksi Aaltonen. “As a result, hours are often not recorded at all, recorded too late, or materials and supplies are logged incorrectly. These inaccuracies accumulate and lead to significant inefficiencies.”
Aceve has therefore focused on solving these grassroots-level challenges whilst ensuring that installers’ working hours are allocated correctly to productive work.
“When the system supports work in the background, it reduces errors and omissions, improves quality and customer satisfaction, and enhances workflow. At the same time, smoother processes support job satisfaction and can help retain skilled professionals in the industry,” Haapamäki adds.
Aaltonen also emphasizes that the use of AI should be as effortless as possible. “In our view, AI and its use cases should not be complex—quite the opposite.”
Software Development Is Accelerating
According to Haapamäki, the AI hype has now lasted long enough, and this year marks the time to demonstrate real, practical benefits and bring the first truly useful solutions to market.
“We have not seen a true digital revolution for quite some time. AI will transform how we all use software, but so far it has largely remained at the level of discussion. This year, the leading players will begin to turn that discussion into reality. By next year, we will already be far ahead of where we are today.”
He adds that the market has been actively demanding tools that genuinely improve efficiency, indicating that software providers have not yet fully addressed their customers’ most critical challenges.
“I have been selling solutions to this industry for ten years, and I have never experienced such an enthusiastic reception as when presenting this new solution. It has been a unique experience to offer customers something whose value they immediately understand—without the need for further justification. Welcome to the future,” Haapamäki concludes.
